1. Can I host the programs on my server?

To take advantage of the benefits of the Software as a Service delivery model all solutions are hosted on WebVantage's  secure servers. It is not possible to move the software components to other servers. It is however common to have other website components hosted through other hosting companies.

2. With my cloud, what happens if my internet connection goes down? If the server was on-site I could still access my data couldn't I?

Every piece of technology is prone to faults, and while even internet connections are included in this, so are on-site servers. These days, internet connections are plentiful and it is usually very simple bring up an alternate link. Backup access to your data and your cloud can be as simple as plugging in a USB 3G Dongle, they are cheap and you could even keep a spare one in the office just in case.

Consider now how complicated if can be to recover from the failure of an on-site server. How long could you be offline if your on-site server has a complete crash? It is not unheard of to be offline for days or weeks if specialist parts are needed or data backups are not as clean as they should be.

3. Well, what about WebVantage's servers, aren't they also sustainable to failure?

Sure, they are not infallible and problems have occurred in the past and will happen in the future.  The difference here is that we have a multi-pronged strategy to reduce the impacts of any such problems including elements such as:

  • Fault tolerant architecture - servers and network are designed to continue to operate even after certain common types of failures;
  • Real-time data replication means that if there was an outage that cant be rectified quickly then alternate systems exist with current data sets that can take over; and
  • 24 x 7 monitoring of key systems to alert engineers to faults as soon as they happen so they can be quickly fixed.

I think you will agree that this repents a level of service that is hard to build yourself without significant investments in technology and staff.  Being a WebVantage customer you enjoy the benefits of this grade of service at minimal cost as the expenses are shared across our entire customer base.

4. What about my data, how can I get a copy of it?

According to our Privacy and Information Handling Policy, all data that is supplied by you or your customers while using our services is owned by you. In other words, we will make it simple to access the data you require in a convenient manner. During an initial consultation we will discuss your data access needs and ensure they final solution meets these requirements.

The applications contain export tools that let you download data in bulk form. If you require additional ad-hoc access to data, then you can make the request through the service desk, who will then arrange for an export to be sent to you. Please note there may be a nominal fee to cover the engineering costs of such requests.  If you require regular access to data of a specific format, then specific export templates can be build into your cloud during deployment.
